Himachal Pradesh gets Centre’s nod for irrigation, flood control projects
The Centre has granted investment clearance to six irrigation, flood control and multipurpose projects worth Rs 7922 crore for Himachal Pradesh. The projects given clearance include the Renukaji multipurpose dam project.
The approval to the state Government was given during the 13th meeting of the investment clearance committee of the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation in the Union Jal Shakti Ministry recently.
The Renukaji multipurpose dam project on Giri River in upper Yamuna basin of Sirmaur district will entail investment of Rs 6,946.99 crore. The dam will augment availability of water for Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan.
The project will also generate 40 MW of power during peak flow and is being executed by the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL). It has been declared a national project.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said the state will get 40 MW free electricity under the Renukaji dam project besides 3.15 per cent of water share.
Five project proposals related to flood protection works and anti-erosion measures worth Rs 975 crore were also given clearance, he added.
Dharampur constituency in Mandi got clearance for Sakrain, Malthod, Thothu, Dol and Samour Khad with estimated cost of Rs 145.73 crore. In Kangra, clearance was given for Naker Khad and its tributaries with an estimated cost of Rs 231.02 crore; while in Sirmaur, the project includes right bank of Yamuna River and its tributaries with an estimated cost of Rs 250.46 crore.
In Mandi, the projects have been cleared for Seer Khad from Barchhwar to Jahu with an estimated cost of Rs 157.66 crore; and in Shimla for the Pabbar river from Takkari to Hatkosi in Rohru tehsil with an estimated cost of Rs 190.82 crore.
