VA Tech Wabag nets Rs 760-crore projects in India, abroad
Chennai-based water technology major VA Tech Wabag has secured several orders in the Indian and overseas market. The orders are worth Rs 760 crore and include a Asian Development Bank-funded project in India.
The company it has bagged a major water supply project in Bhagalpur, Bihar. Wabag will design, build and operate a 141 million litre per day (MLD) raw water intake work on Ganga at Bhagalpur and a 90 MLD water treatment plant with proprietary plate settler technology worth over Rs 278 crore.
The project will be executed over a period of 31 months and includes operation and maintenance for 10 years. The project will be funded by Asian Development Bank.
In India, the company also secured a 178-MLD drinking water treatment plant in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
Wabag will design and build the 178 MLD water treatment plant at Coimbatore worth over Rs 94 Crore for Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD) using space saving proprietary plate settler technology.
The WTP will treat water from Bhavani river and supply it to the newly added areas of Coimbatore.
The project will be executed over a period of 24 months and Wabag will also be responsibile for operational maintenance of the plant for a period of 10 years. The project would be funded by the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation Scheme.
In the overseas market, Wabag has bagged a 103 MLD drinking water treatment plant in Saint Sulpice in Switzerland.
Wabag will build the Saint Sulpice II – drinking water treatment plant at Geneva Lake, making it one of the biggest advanced technology based drinking water treatment facility in Switzerland and the biggest order in value terms for Wabag Switzerland.
The contract is worth 37.4 million Swiss Francs and will be executed by a consortium of Wabag and OTV-Veolia. Wabag’s scope in the contract is worth 24 million Swiss Francs.
The plant will be equipped with high-tech multi-barrier treatment chain. Wabag’s scope will include design and implementation of raw water pumping station, pre-filtration, GAC filtration, ultra-filtration, assembly and supply of major equipment, supervision and commissioning.
This project is the biggest advanced oxidation process (AOP) installation in Switzerland with a side-stream injection technology developed by Wabag and first nano-filtration in Switzerland supplied by OTV-Veolia.
The process is unique in Switzerland and Europe, enabling to reduce and eliminate micro-pollutants for drinking water. Once completed, the new treatment plant will cater up to 50 per cent of the total demand for the Lausanne’s region, which has around 300,000 inhabitants and the region’s expected population growth for the next 20 years.
The other overseas project has been bagged in Singapore.
Wabag has secured a S$10 million contract for design, fabrication, supply, delivery, installation, testing and commissioning of odour control systems for the influent pumping station package of Tuas Water Reclamation Plant of Public Utilities Board (PUB) in Singapore through Koh Brothers – China Harbor Joint Venture.
Wabag Singapore has also secured a S$12 million extension contract for servicing and maintenance of sludge drying systems at Changi water reclamation plant. As per the extended contract, Wabag Singapore will service and maintain the plant for a period of another two years.
