Ambuja Cement saves 70 million litre water at construction sites

As part of its ongoing focus on green and sustainable construction, leading Indian cement maker Ambuja Cement Limited has said it has managed to save 70 million litre of water at construction sites.

The listed company, part of the Swiss cement and building materials major Holcim Group, said it has sharpened its focus on water conservation at its plants surrounding areas and at customer end during construction.

In 2020, Ambuja Cement facilitated installation of rooftop rainwater harvesting systems at 268 construction sites, modular curing at 2391 construction sites and concrete mix proportion services at 14271 construction sites.

These three have helped Ambuja Cement in saving 70 million litre of water, a robust step towards extending benefits of sustainable water consumption to its customers. Also, the company has invested Rs 525 crore towards waste heat recovery systems (WHRS) and facilitated formal training of masons and contractors through ‘Neev Abhiyan’ initiative.

During 2020, Ambuja Cements also developed and revived 83 water harvesting and recharging structures and 14 dams for the benefit of community, amounting to storage capacity of 600 million litre, taking the total count to 14060 water harvesting and recharge structures, 458 check dams and 59240 million litre, respectively, an official statement said.
