Andritz bags €50 million equipment order for Kiru hydropower project in J&K

Austria-based international technology group Andritz has received an order worth over €50 million from Chenab Valley Power Projects Pvt Ltd to supply the complete electro-mechanical equipment for the Kiru hydropower plant located in Jammu & Kashmir.

The run-of-river 624MW hydropower project is coming up on the Chenab River in Kishtwar district and addresses the energy deficiency in the northern part of India. The mega hydropower project will bring clean renewable energy to the rural area and also enable industrial development in the region.

Chenab Valley Power Projects is a joint venture company among NHPC, JKSPDC and PTC India Ltd and was formed to harness the hydro potential of Chenab River. Besides the Kiru HE project, the company is also undertaking three other major projects – Pakal Dul HE project (1000 MW), Kwar HE project (540 MW) and DulHasti HE project, Phase-II (550 MW).

The order comprises supply, design, manufacturing, erection, testing and commissioning of four units (turbines and generators), auxiliary electrical and mechanical equipment as well as 400 kV GIS and 400 kV outdoor pothead yard equipment.

The contract will be executed by Andritz’s Indian subsidiary from its manufacturing facilities in Mandideep, near Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh and Prithla, near Faridabad in Haryana.

Andritz, which is looking to further strengthen its position in the Indian hydropower market, has a broad portfolio of plants, equipment, systems and services for the pulp and paper industry, hydropower sector, metals processing and forming industry, pumps, solid/liquid separation in the municipal and industrial sectors.
