L&T secures major water supply, treatment projects in UP, Karnataka
Engineering & construction major L&T has secured two major water projects in India in the past one month, including a project being funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The water & effluent treatment division of L&T Construction won a repeat order from the Uttar Pradesh State Water & Sanitation Mission (SWSM) to implement rural water supply projects providing functional house tap connection (FHTC) under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
The business has been entrusted to implement rural water supply projects to provide potable water to 1285 villages in the Varanasi and Ghazipur districts of Varanasi Revenue Division. The scope comprises tube wells, pump houses-cum-chlorination rooms, overhead tanks, treatment systems, solar plants, rising main & distribution pipeline network, staff quarters and individual house connections including allied electromechanical & automation works.
The division is already executing water supply schemes in Mahoba, Banda, Chitrakhoot and Sonbhadra Gonda, Balrampur and Shravasti districts for the state’s Water & Sanitation Mission, an official statement said.
Prior to the Uttar Pradesh order, L&T said the water & effluent treatment division had bagged an order from Bangalore Water Supply & Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to design, build & operate sewage treatment plants & intermediate sewage pumping stations along with construction of main sewers for 110 villages in the Mahadevpura & Bommanahalli region (K&C Valley Catchment) of Bengaluru city. The project is funded by JICA.
The brief scope of the Karnataka project includes survey, investigation, design & construction of two pumping stations, three fully automated sewage treatment plants of 34 MLD total capacity and main sewer lines of 132 km length with DWC, RCC and DI pipes. The project will benefit 18.04 lakh people in Bengaluru city, the company said.
While L&T did not give the exact value of the contracts, they have been put in the significant category. L&T has classified the significant category as that with project value of Rs 1000-2500 crore.
