The Centre has approved drinking water supply schemes worth Rs 6872 crore for Rajasthan under Jal Jeevan Mission.

These schemes will provide tap water supply to more than 6.56 lakh rural households in 3213 villages spread across 27 districts. The schemes include five multi-village major projects while the others are single-village drinking water supply schemes.

The schemes were approved at the meeting of the State-level Scheme Sanctioning Committee (SLSSC) held on January 5, 2022.

The Jal Jeevan Mission has released Rs 2345 crore Central grant-in-aid to Rajasthan during 2021-22. This year, the Union Jal Shakti Ministry has allocated Rs 10180.50 crore to Rajasthan for implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission, a four-fold increase from last year’s allocation.

The state Government has been assured full assistance in making provision of tap water supply in every rural home by December 2024.

An official statement said since the launch of the JJM in August 2019, the State has provided tap water connections to 10.5 lakh (10.3 per cent) households despite Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown disruptions.

At the time of the launch of JJM, only 11.74 lakh (11.57 per cent) rural homes in the State had tap water supply. As on date, out of 1.01 Crore rural household, 22.23 lakh (21.92 per cent) are getting tap water supply in their homes.

In 2021-22, the State plans to provide tap water connections to 30 lakh households.
