Pune-based energy and environment solutions major Thermax Ltd is betting big on the water and wastewater solutions business. The Pune-based company is looking to expand its footprint in the water and wastewater treatment solutions market in India and sees this segment contributing about Rs 1000 crore to its topline in the next couple of years.

The company opened a new manufacturing facility in Chinchwad, Pune, for water and wastewater treatment equipment earlier this week.

Thermax’s water and waste solutions business, in recent years, has expanded significantly to include reverse osmosis (RO), sewage treatment plants
(STP), effluent recycling systems (ERS) and zero liquid discharge (ZLD) solutions. The new Rs 45 crore manufacturing facility will implement and cater to Thermax’s new technologies to offer softener and filter vessels, tubular membrane modules, and capacitive deionisation (CDI) solutions.

Tremax MD & CEO Ashish Bhandari said the company’s water and wastewater treatment solution business was witnessing 20-30 per cent annual growth in recent years and is seen becoming a Rs 1000-crore business by 2025.

The company’s and wastewater business had grown 3x in the last four years and continues to grow, driven by regulations, better enforcement of those regulations, transition to sustainable technologies and shortage of water, said Bhandari.

“This technologically advanced plant will set new standards in efficiency, reliability, and sustainability, ensuring that our customers receive the highest-quality water and wastewater treatment solutions. We firmly believe that sustainability and profitability should go hand in hand, and our facility will deliver this premise in action for a better tomorrow, one where every drop counts”, said Bhandari.

Thermax focuses on the urban segment, which includes industrial, commercial and residential water and wastewater solutions segment. The company has not ventured in the government and municipal water business so far.

The factory will integrate advanced production techniques and high levels of automation to enhance production efficiency and output while minimising waste. Securing its supply chain, the plant will be supported by nearly 1,000 vendors from Maharashtra and across India, he added.
