VA Tech Wabag signs contract for Bhagalpur water supply management project
Leading water technology company VA Tech Wabag has signed the contract for the Rs 287-crore water supply project in Bihar even as the company has stated that it sees an increase in water and sanitation investment for the underserved segments across the world.
The Chennai-headquartered company expects the coming months to reflect several piped 24×7 supply schemes in rural and urban India as well as in several geographies that it is present in.
The company has signed a contract with Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (Buidco) for improvement of water supply system for Bhagalpur Municipal Corporation. On completion, the project will be the largest water supply scheme in Bhagalpur and will be a lifeline to approximately 6,00,000 people.
The project is aimed at providing reliable and continuous source of clean and safe drinking water for the city.
The scope of the project includes designing, building and operating 141 million litre per day (MLD) raw water intake works on the Ganga siver at Bhagalpur, a 90 MLD water treatment plant with proprietary plate settler technology and 29 KM of clear water rising mains.
Post successful execution, VA Tech Wabag will also be operating and maintaining the plant for 10 years. The project is funded by Asian Development Bank.
“We are proud to be associated with the Bihar Government for developing sustainable water and wastewater infrastructure. The project reflects WABAG’s commitment to fulfilling Bihar’s vision of providing clean and safe drinking water and sanitation to every household of the state. Further, this project reinforces Wabag’s reputation of winning and successfully executing multilateral funded jobs globally”, said VA Tech Wabag CEO – India Cluster Pankaj Sachdeva.
The company said as a partner in building sustainable water infrastructure in Bihar, it is currently developing wastewater infrastructure – sewage treatment plants, sewage pumping stations, sewerage networks and household service connections – at various zones of Patna like Pahari, Karmalichak, Digha & Kankarbagh.
On successful execution of the projects, Wabag will be responsible for managing the sewerage infrastructure in four out of the six zones of Patna and will ensure a cleaner and healthier ecosystem for the people of the city, it said.
Meanwhile, the company said it did not foresee any adverse swings in the demands for its water technology solutions due to Covid-19.
“At this point in time, the duration for which these restrictions will remain in place is uncertain and resumption of full-fledged operations will depend upon directives issued by the respective Government authorities. However in collaboration with the Clients, specific permissions and relaxations from the regulatory and other local authorities were obtained at certain highly critical construction sites to continue the work during lock-down. With the relaxation in lockdown in certain locations from time to time, business activities are gaining momentum”, it said in a regulatory filing.
